Yummy Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs

Sweet Potato Puffs
I was very interested to find and try Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs, but with living in a small town (population of 800), there are shopping disadvantages.  Our trips to a larger city for shopping must be carefully planned, especially with sometimes lugging three young children along and the drive is about an hour each way.
I was fortunate to be sent a bag in the mail of Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs to try.  Wow!  These little fellas are smaller than a tater tot, but have such a unique flavor.  I have heard of sweet potatoes prepared in many ways, but the puffs concept is great.  They have a crunchy exterior and a sweet and smooth taste waiting inside.  The added sugar brings on just a bit of sweetness.
Here they are after baking:
I have posted the nutritional value before for Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs, but I went to Ore Ida’s website and checked on Tater Tots®.

Granted, the applications are different, I wouldn’t use sweet potato puffs for a tater tot casserole, but let’s just compare the values:
  • The serving size was about the same, 86 g for Ore Ida Tater Tots and 84 g for Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs.
  • Calories was 160 with 70 cal from fat in tater tots and 130 with 30 from fat in sweet potato puffs.
  • Total fat is 8 grams and 1.5 g was saturated fat in tater tots vs. 3.5 grams in sweet potato puffs, non are saturated..
  • Sodium was 420 mg in tater tots vs. 230 mg for sweet potato puffs.
  • There were more total carbohydrates in sweet potato puffs, I assume due to sugars.  It was 23 g vs. 20 g.
  • The tater tots had more potassium (250 mg vs. 170 mg), but sweet potato puffs had 70% daily percent of vit. A, 6% daily for vit. C, while tater tots had 0%.  Then both products had 2% iron.
Overall, I think Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs are a unique and healthy alternative.  They taste great too.  The only setbacks are:

  1. A bit more pricey, but you are getting natural ingredients.  It is nice to be able to pronounce all the ingredients listed and know what they are! 🙂
  2. Alexia Sweet Potato Puffs are not available in every grocery store or supermarket.

dISCLOSURE:  i RECEIVED A SAMPLE OF ALEXIA SWEET POTATO PUFFS FOR THIS REVIEW.  tHE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS EXPRESSED ARE MY OWN.  nO OTHER COMPENSATION WAS RECEIVED.
