I believe your smile is one of the first features a person notices about you. To make a great first impression, white teeth are desirable. Some believe having white teeth makes you more attractive and they promote a sign of good health.
My husband and I both occasionally drink colas and enjoy a cup of coffee, which can lead to discoloration. Thankfully neither of us smoke or chew. I recruited my hubby to help review the Smile Brilliant! Tray Creation Kit. Here are my husband’s teeth before we began.
Smile Brilliant! is a professional teeth whitening kit that you perform in the comfort of your own home. The tray creation kit includes: three sets of catalyst and base paste, two trays, three syringes of desensitizing gel, and three syringes of teeth whitening gel. Additional syringes can be ordered when the trays are sent in or anytime after.
To prepare yourself for creating the impression, you must first brush and floss. Three sets of impression material (catalyst paste and base paste) are included. You will only need two sets to fill your trays, but the third is included as a spare in case you make a mistake. One catalyst paste and one base paste should be taken out of their containers and mixed for two minutes. It becomes a solid blue color.
Then the putty should be placed in the tray and the use should try to spread the putty evenly within 30 seconds. Then the putty sits in the tray for one minute before making an impression.
My poor hubby was a good sport about this. See why it’s nice to have the opportunity to make these impressions in the privacy of your own home? You will want to do one tray at a time and land down in the middle of the putty. You do not want to bite down, but apply the tray upward and let it sit for one and a half minutes. Material should flow over the gums and you are not to wiggle the trays out of your mouth.
You will want to the verify the appearance of your impression and repeat. The trays can be reused if you have an error, but you do need to make a new batch of putty. Once the impression looks ideal, you will want to leave it sit for 30 minutes, untouched. 
I am thankful three sets of catalyst and base past were sent because the first one on the left did not turn out so we repeated the upper impression. 
Here’s a closer image of the impression that did not turn out. The left side looks okay, but the right side was set too far forward.
Then take your upper and lower impression and mail them off in the provided mailer that comes with the kit. It is pre-paid in the US only. 
The return card included with the kit should be filled out and mailed back with the impressions. It takes about 3-4 days (6-10 days international) before the impressions are received and if you have provided an e-mail address, you will be notified that your impression trays are received and when they are ready to ship out, which takes about five days after the impressions have been received.
Since I was doing this review, I received the actual plaster mold Smile Brilliant! created from my husband’s impressions. This is the same process a dentist would perform to create custom fitted trays.

Here’s the upper and lower set.
Now it is time to brush and floss. With the whitening trays clean and dry, the desensitizing gel should be applied to temporarily seal micro-fractures and pores in your tooth’s enamel so the whitening gel doesn’t penetrate into the dentin beneath the enamel and cause pain.
Each syringe of desinsitizing gel will last for three applications. You will want to remove the breakaway cap on the syringe by hand or with a scissors. 
A syringe of desensitizing gels should be applied along the front, inner surface of the trays. You don’t need to apply it to the back of your teeth since they will not be whitened. The instructions say about a drop of gel into each tooth cavity or 1/2 ml of gel per tray.
The trays should be inserted with a forward pressing motion so the teeth press into the gel. This process can be done for 20-60 minutes. My spouse did 30 minutes and then it was time to rinse with water and brush lightly with a soft bristle brush. The trays should be rinsed and dried before whitening.
Then onto the whitening gel. These steps are pretty much the same as with the desensitizing gel. The duration can be 20 minutes to three hours, depending on tooth sensitivity.
You will want to consult your dentist if prolonged sensitivity or irritation occurs. There is a disclaimer you will sign off on with the return card and it is also printed on the sheets that Smile Brilliant, LLC can not guarantee a particular result and you should consult your dentist before using any teething whitening products.
My husband went through desensitizing and whitening for the first time last night and the whitening gel was allowed to penetrate for only 40 minutes. My husband was a little concerned by his bite right after. The trays made him bite a little bit differently, but then he was able to bite again normally later that night. I think his teeth have benefited in appearance from Smile Brilliant! and no sensitivity was noted.
There are a few minor things I wish was different with the tray creation kit. The directions say approximately how much to use per tray and how much each syringe will do/last. It appears to be a 3 cc syringe from what I remember from my vet tech days, but I think 0.5 ml increments written on the syringe would be very helpful for customers to ensure that they are using the correct amount when applying the gels to each tray. On the instructions to the teeth whitening, it ends with the duration to whiten, but does not say if you are to rinse or gently brush your teeth again after completing the process. We figured to rinse with water when he was done in case there was any gel left in his mouth or on his teeth.
The director of marketing for Smile Brilliant kindly addressed my concerns today. The increments are not labeled on the syringes because the recommended amounts are to be used as an estimate. If you have a small mouth, you may want to use a bit less so the gums do not become irritated from excess gel or to use more if you have a larger mouth. As far as instructions after whitening, they have been updated since I received my kit.
It does take a bit of planning to desensitize and whiten at home with approximately 1- 1 1/2 hours needed and not to eat until both steps have been completed so plan ahead. This product is not for nighttime use and is not intended for use by pregnant women. If you use tobacco, you should not use it while using this product too. All Smile Brilliant, LLC products are not intended for use on children under the age of 12.
