VTech’s SkySlicer the Allosaurus Review and Giveaway

I received SkySlicer the Allosaurus™ to give a test drive.  My children, especially my son, was super excited to help with its evaluation.  SkySlicer can transform from a jet plane into an Allosaurus and was released this fall.

SkySlicer arrived in his dino form.  The instructions show the transformation, but only show the steps to go convert from jet to dino so you do need to think in reverse on how to move a few parts and transform his shape.

IMG_4484This toy comes with a 1.5″ LCD screen.  You can change the dino’s eyes or the pilot if in jet mode.

There are two buttons in the front.  The right button allows you to control volume.  SkySlicer can be muted or adjusted to the desired volume level.  The left button controls the selection of eyes as a dinosaur or pilot if in jet mode.

In dinosaur mode, “Big Al” shares dino facts and plays fun dinosaur sounds.  He makes realistic jet sounds when he’s ready for high-flying action.  There is also an on/off switch on the bottom of the toy to give complete silence if you so wish.  Two AAA batteries are needed to have sound.

There are also controls on top of the toy.  The ! button prompts the toy in either mode to state interactive sounds and conversation.  The button that looks like a lightning bold creates dinosaur roars and sounds of the jet soaring.  SkySlicer has over 50 different sounds and phrases.

SkySlicer the Allosaurus™ is recommended for children ages 3-8 years.  My oldest, who turns seven in just a few days, did not have interest in SkySlicer.  I’m not sure if it was just due to her own preference or maybe the ideal age is not realistically up to age eight.  My other two children fight over playtime with “Big Al” and they are almost three and five.

My youngest two have had a blast with SkySlicer the Allosaurus.  The only other comment I would have is with the lower jaw of Allosaurus/part of the nose when a jet.  You have to press firmly to lock this piece in place, which may be hard to do for some children or it will flop down when in jet mode.  Otherwise, a great toy!

The suggested retail for SkySlicer is $15.99.  Each of the collectible Switch & Go Dinos® features high-quality Additional Dinos in the Switch & Go line include Jagger the T-Rex™, Blister the Velociraptor™, MC Roar the Giganotosaurus™, Stompsalot the Amargasaurus™, Quiver the Stygimoloch™, Torr the Therizinosaurus™ and Akuna the Velociraptor™.
