I have been allowing my five-year-old son to play with the VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX. We have an earlier model of the watch too. This model has a less bulky and more flexible wrist strap, which is nice for little ones and has added games and activities over the VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch.
There is an on/off switch on the back side of the watch head. If you do turn it off, the time and date will be prompted for re-setting each time before using. It will go otherwise into sleep mode if you leave it on and do not turn off with the switch.
DX allows your child to take pictures, record short video, and make borders/frames and other effects to their creations. There are some games for the child to play included on the watch and more can be found on VTech’s website.
A cord is included for charging the battery. I don’t want to attempt this feature, but it is to be splash/sweat proof too. This does not mean that your child can go expose it in the rain or take a shower or bath with it on.
The internal memory is 256 MB. It is easy to remove photos/videos and if you find that you want to keep them, you can use the enclosed cord and transfer files to another device. I have been trying to reiterate to my son on how important it is to stay still when taking photos/videos or they turn out to be a blurry mess. :-/
The VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX is available in royal blue, vivid violet, pink, and recently added camouflage, red flame with bonus royal blue wristband, and floral swirl with bonus vivid violet wristband. This product is recommended for children ages 4-9. It starts off at roughly $55 currently and goes up to almost $90 with some additional toys included.
Disclosure: I received a VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX to review. No other compensation was received for this post.
