I have been wanting to write about this for a while, but other commitments have put my plans on the back burner (going back to college, managing three kids and their activities, gardening, etc.).
Way back in June, my spouse and I flew out to Maine in celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary.
We flew out of Duluth International Airport (DLH), which was heavenly as opposed to MSP. It’s so small and cozy. They service Delta, United, and American Airlines.
Check-in was quick and painless so we had time to spare. We went to Arrowhead Tap House and I sampled the Hamburger Deluxe. My spouse had a Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe. The food was good, the beverages were cold, and the service was decent.
We had one stopover at Chicago O’Hare with flying United. Our final destination was flying into Portland, ME, and at the time, there was some construction at the airport, but again, small and easy to navigate through when we arrived.
We had rented a car for our trip. You have to go out of the airport and cross the street to where the car rentals are held.
One thing that surprised us out in Maine was the toll roads. We don’t have much for tolls in Minnesota. It was nighttime when we arrived in Portland and we hit the first toll on our way to the hotel. Thankfully we had cash in the center console of our rental car handy!
My husband took on lining up all our reservations by himself. I told him with places we stayed, comfort and value were my top wants. I wasn’t into luxury, just a place to crash for the night.
The first night, we stayed at America’s Best Value Inn Scarborough, ME. This location has free Wi-Fi and breakfast.
The furniture was comfortable. The chairs had a bit of fading.
There was some damage to the desktop.
The bathroom was nice.
The ceiling could have benefited from some new paint. It looked like some possible water damage to our unit.
The units had their own entrance. We were thankful to visit in the summertime. I think snow could have come inside from the entrance with the door needing some adjustment.
There was a separate building to check-in and out of. It housed the free breakfast.
