A couple of weeks ago, my family and I had an opportunity to visit Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium, which is located at the lowest level in the Mall of America.    After submitting our tickets, we walked into an interactive area called the Pacific Northwest Rockpool.  It has 1500 gallons of water and is three times larger than the previous touch pool.   There is a variety of anemones, sea cucumbers, and starfish to discover and touch.

The next part is my personal favorite – Jellyfish Discovery.

There are several interesting facts written on the walls about these unique creatures that are heartless, brainless, and bloodless.

Colored lighting amplifies the mystery of these creatures.

An exhibit that is present only for a limited time is called “Claws”.  Here is my six-year-old next to a giant Japanese Spider Crab.  They can reach up to 12 feet across!

The Potbelly Seahorses are fun to watch bobbing effortlessly and sometimes wrapping around the decor in their tanks.

The Broadnose Pipefish and others are extraordinary.

Be sure to set aside time for the 300 foot Ocean Tunnel.  You can see creatures off both sides and above you.  There are a variety of sharks, sea turtles in turtle tanks, and much more.

After the tunnel, there are poison dart frogs, Red Belly Piranhas, and other critters in Mysteries of the Rainforest.

We took a family photo minus our oldest who was camera shy that day near the end of our visit.

Sea Life is for individuals, families, school visits, birthday parties, overnight sleepovers, and I even saw a few wedding proposals in Sea Life’s collection of photos.  Admission tickets can be purchased online or at the box office.  Purchasing online will allow you to skip a line with printing tickets beforehand at home.  Children under the age of three are free and prices can be viewed on their site here.

During the month of May, an annual membership is only $30 + tax per person .  You can enjoy unlimited entry and other perks with this membership.

I have only skimmed the surface with sharing a few of the creatures available to visit at Seal Life.  There are plenty of other creatures and amenities at Sea Life that will suit your needs.  Sea Life Minnesota homes over 5,000 underwater creatures.
