I recently viewed The Tiger Rising and when I mentioned the movie title to my family, my daughter said that she had read the best-selling book by Kate DiCamillo of The Tiger Rising. This film has been in theaters and comes out on digital tomorrow. One reader will win a digital code for this movie!
Dennis Quaid and Queen Latifah shine through this film with their characters. 10-year-old Rob Horton, Jr. (Christian Convery) has lost his mother to cancer. To get back on their feet, Rob and his dad live in a hotel called the Kentucky Star in Florida.
The boy has been exploring the woods behind the hotel and oddly found a caged-up tiger. His imagination runs wild with thinking about this beautiful big cat.
Rob has been dealing with some sort of skin issue on his legs and the school staff are worried it’s contagious so they request he stay for a while to get it under control. On this last day before being sent home, Rob befriends a new girl at school, Sistene Bailey (Madalen Mills). Rob stood up for Sistene in a fight at school and she requested to bring him his homework daily while he is away from school.
Rob shares with Sistene his discovery in the woods. Sistene is adamant that they set the tiger free. They have Willie May, the wise cleaning lady at the hotel to help weigh in on the dilemma regarding if they should interfere with this majestic creature too. This touching film takes you on a wondrous adventure and reminds us to have courage and hope on our path to freedom and healing.
