Recently we received a copy of The Snoopy Treasures: A Celebration of the World Famous Beagle by Peanuts expert Nat Gertler. My nine-year-old liked Peanuts and then seeing The Peanuts Movie instilled her love of this favorite beagle so she was immediately eyeing this title after its arrival.
It’s hard to believe, but Snoopy has been around for 65 years or 450 dog years. 🙂 Until reading this book, I had forgotten Charles M. Schultz, the creator of Peanuts, grew up in Minnesota and that Snoopy was based on a childhood hunting dog he had named Spike.
The Snoopy Treasures includes 12 sections. They cover his many alter egos, like the Flying Ace and Joe Cool, his friends in the beloved Peanuts gang, and even back to his family at the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. It also showcases him as a colorful cultural icon – parades, plays, books, movies, songs, even at NASA.
Each pages provides original Peanuts panels, side-by-side comparisons showing the evolution of Snoopy into who he looks like today, photography from the Schulz museum, and ten pieces of pullout memorabilia like those pictured below. Here is a Snoopy baseball pennant.
A letter from President T=Ronald Reagan to Charles M. Schulz plus other great pieces.
New persons and lifelong fans alike will surely discover something new in The Snoopy Treasures, the perfect holiday gift for Snoopy lovers of all ages.
