Review: This is the first book by Dr. Karp that I have read. My children are now two, four, and six. They go to bed around 8-8:30 p.m. and sleep until 6:30-7:30 a.m. My youngest does still take naps most days. We do have a few nights with interruptions for assistance to go potty or needing a toy placed back in bed with them. For the most part, peaceful nights now, but when they were younger, this was not the case.
Dr. Karp shares techniques and items to aid in assisting your child from birth to age 5 sleep through the night without crying it out in The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep. We tried crying it out once with our oldest and it just made her upset and exhausted. It left us feeling horrible.
Since our children are sleeping through most nights, I found it more interesting to just read about the science of kid sleep. There are sections for specific ages, like 0-3 months, 3-12 months, and then 1-5 years is grouped together. This book is set-up so you can read chapter one and then go to the part in the book that pertains to your child(s) age.
The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep would be great for first time parents. I have had to learn quite a few of the techniques Dr. Karp suggested by years of trial and error with my own children. I am working on the “patience stretching” with our children after reading this book. Dr. Karp’s suggestions seem realistic and practical in order to obtain a good night’s sleep for you and your child.
With The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep, no longer will new parent have to suffer months of sleep deprivation and no longer will babies have to cry themselves to sleep. Backed by compelling science, common sense and decades of experience, Dr. Karp’s landmark guide will revolutionize how millions of children drift off to dreamland.
