You probably have heard me mention this before. As my children get older, we hope to take on more camping trips. We brought a larger cooler of food with us last year went camping, but it would be nice to prepare more ahead of time and maybe lessen what we pack.
The Complete Trail Food Cookbook provides recipes that take some planning, but are meant to be enjoyed on the go. Before reading this book, I didn’t realize that so many foods could be dehydrated and I had not seen recipes that called for dehydrated items. Many recipes are “just add water” and some do not require cooking to reconstitute.
This book showcases all that you can dehydrate and the best methods in doing so. Dehydration of food allows campers and hikers to lighten their load of supplies and still have a hearty meal. These meals come without preservatives because they keep longer without moisture.
The recipes in this book include breakfast, main courses, side dishes, breads, high energy snacks, desserts, even hot and cold beverages. I want to incorporate keeping some just in my pantry at home for everyday use.
- Vanilla cinnamon French toast
- Curried chicken and apples
- Campfire pizzas
- Cheese and herb skillet biscuits
- Just-add-water hummus
- Fudgy skillet brownies
- Mexican coffee
- Antiox berry shake
