The Adventures of Bella and Harry is a picture book series that showcases the adventures of Bella, a Chihuahua, and her little brother, Harry, as they travel the world. This series is recommended for children ages 5-10. Bella and Harry travel through cities like Rome, Venice, and London while exploring culture, famous attractions of the area, and give us an introduction to the local language.
My sister and her family are moving to Italy the end of the month and so I thought it would be fun to share a bit of Italy with my children and review The Adventures of Bella and Harry: Let’s Visit Rome! This title was released this year in April and is the eighth book in the series.
Lest’s Visit Rome! covers a trip to the Roman Colosseum, Roman Forum, Circus Maximus, Piazza Navona, Fontana di Trevi, the Spanish Steps, and the “Trident”. After the story, there are a few illustrated snapshots of Bella and Harry enjoying other sites in Rome. Six Italian words and phrases are included with English translation in the rear of the book. www.BellaandHarry.com also features additional activities for children. There is an interactive coloring book, a suitcase to pack, word match, and game of matching country flags included on the webpage. There are lesson plans for some of the titles too.
Bella and Harry are these two inquisitive little puppies with large and inviting brown eyes. I think these characters are very appealing to children as they go on their adventures highlighted with colorful illustrations. These two pups also help to introduce global geography and give us a glimpse into another culture. I pulled out a world map afterward to help my six-year-old understand where Italy was in relation to our state of Minnesota. She was amazed that she would have family across the map for the next three years.
