About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Considered one of the most popular kids’ television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series, and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases, delighting fans around the world for the last 30 years. Nickelodeon acquired the global intellectual property rights to the wildly successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise in September 2009. The re-vamped CG-animated television series premiered on the network, Sept. 29, 2012, and was an instant hit, drawing almost 12 million viewers during its premiere weekend. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, currently the number-one new series with boys 2-11 year to date, is based on four mutant teenage turtles–Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo–trained in the art of ninjutsu by their mutant rat sensei, Master Splinter, who teaches the brothers to battle evil from the New York City sewers. The property also has translated into a billion dollar consumer products business with DVDs, video games, toys and more.
