My oldest graduated from kindergarten last week. She had an early start and early release date due to a school referendum that passed and needing additional time for building renovations to take place. In order to honor her wonderful teacher, we made a few gifts for her.
I love Pinterest for ideas and used a Lemon Sugar Scrub from I Heart Nap Time.
Know what’s great about this recipe? Three ingredients – granulated sugar, coconut oil, and lemons.
I used 2 cups granulated sugar, 1/4 cup coconut oil, and 1 lemon. I put sugar in a large bowl, melted the coconut oil in a glass Pyrex measuring cup, and then poured the coconut oil in with the sugar. I then zested the lemon and cut it in half to then squeeze out the lemon juice and mixed together. Watch for seeds to discard. I thought this was a good consistency so I didn’t add the extra 1/2 cup sugar like in the original post.
I also made some jars for the early childhood teachers that my two youngest children share. I purchased the glass jars from Walmart. They were in their canning section for slightly under $2 each.
I placed raffia around the jars, but if you go to the blog I Heart Nap Time, she has included free labels to use. I got home with the supplies and had to meet all, but the kindergarten teacher an hour later so it was a very quick assembly.
To use, put 1 tsp. on skin and rub in. Then rinse off gently with water.
The granulated sugar works to exfoliate, the coconut oil to moisturize, and the lemons add fragrance and could potentially lighten dark spots. The lemons also help to remove excess oil.
The only thing I did not see on the original post was how long this mixture lasts. I think the acidity of the lemon juice would help preserve it a bit, but not sure how long.
Along with the Lemon Sugar Scrub, I helped my daughter create a few thumbprint cards for her teacher.
I purchased a craft paint can a while back on clearance and decided to cut and wrap scrapbook paper around it. I used Tacky Glue to adhere it to the can. The Martha Stewart Monarch punch was used to add a few embellishments and that’s it! My daughter’s teacher loves Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups so I placed the contents of two bags of the miniatures into the can and presented after kindergarten graduation.
