My family and I love playing games from Blue Orange Games.  They are durable and unique.  Now that nights are slowing down some, we like to enjoy games together as a family and are always looking for ways to make learning fun.

Our newest Blue Orange Games addition is Super Genius in Multiplication 1.  Super Genius is available with a couple different variations – First Words, Reading 1 & 2, Addition, and Multiplication 1.

Multiplication 1 is recommended for ages 8+ and is for 1-6 players.  This game deals with multiplication from 2x to 5x.  Inside the game box is 62 cards and illustrated rules.  Five variations of play are included on the cards with the yellow border in front.  The variations are called Sardines, Cooperative, Windshield Wipers, Flip-Flap, Face Off.  The sixth yellow border card is an introduction to the game.

One cool thing about this game is that it reminds me of Blue Orange’s Spot It.  There is always a match between any two cards.  With the focus being on multiplication, it can be an equation to a product, an equation to an equation, or a product to a product.

We haven’t played all game variations yet, but here are a few.  Cooperative is currently our favorite.  The cards are made into a 6 x 6 grid with 18 equation cards and 18 product cards being used.  The cards are placed face up on the table.  Players take turns matching cards that have to be touching vertically or horizontally.  If they have a correct match, the two cards are removed and then the next player goes.  This continues until players can no longer match any cards on the playing field.

We have tried Sardines too.  Two cards are dealt to each player, one being an equation card and the other a product card.  Players then place their cards face down in front of them.  The rest of the cards are placed at the center of the table, face down.

Then all the players turn their cards face up and try to memorize what is on their cards.  When everyone is ready, one player flips over the entire pile of cards in the center of the table.  Players race to find a pair of matching elements the fasted between the top card at the center of the table and one of the cards in front of them.

Matches can be an equation to product, equation to equation, or product to product.  The player is to also call out the pair and is then to place the card from the center on top of the matching card in front of him or her.

The game goes until the pile in the center runs out of cards.  The player with the most cards wins the game.

For our family, it isn’t so much a game of speed, but just helping the kids learn since we have two under the age of eight who want to participate.  And to help young learners, there are two cards with 2x, 3x, 4x, and 5x multiplication tables on them for an easy reference plus a single card with a multiplication chart and also 2x-5x all on its other side, but in smaller print.

Play time for Super Genius Multiplication 1 games are on average to last about 15 minutes.  This game has a suggested retail price of $12.99.  To find a store or online retailer for Super Genius and other fine games by Blue Orange, please visit http://www.blueorangegames.com/index.php/shop-online.
