February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and Xlear Inc., who manufactures xylitol – based products has made an educational video on the benefits of using xylitol for improving dental health.
Xylitol is a natural sweetener sourced from corn or birch trees. It does not have an aftertaste and is safe for diabetics. It is safe for all ages and has been published in over 2,500 clinical and laboratory studies. For dental health, bacteria can not metabolize xylitol so less acids are produced in the mouth. Xylitol is also used in some nasal sprays because it helps remove airborne pollutants while moisturizing and soothing the nasal passages.
Xlear uses xylitol made from the plant fibers of corn. Spry, their Dental Defense System®, includes chewing gums, mints, gems, toothpastes, oral rinses, oral mists, and floss coated with xylitol. The Spry kid’s tooth gel has xylitol and calcium, but does not contain fluoride. Calcium is important in the development of tooth enamel.
They also make a xylitol candy called SparX. My children think they are great tasting. I’ve allowed them to eat more of these than any other candy in order to try Simply Dental check up after to see if our Ashfield Dentist would be able to tell they’ve been eating sweets. Their little teeth are in better shape than ever! Sparx are available in berry, citrus, and fruit flavors. They look like little pellets. Xylitol doesn’t interfere with insulin production in the body and is safe for those on a sugar-controlled diet. A serving size is 5 pieces.
