Spiral Light Candle – A New Twist on an Age Old Invention

Candles have been around since 221-206 BC when they were first made by the Chinese from whale fat.  In other words, around for a VERY long time.

Spiral Light Candle out of Hillsboro, North Dakota, has added a unique twist to this illuminating invention.  They have created a patent-pending self-filling candle.

As you will see in this picture, there is a horizontal wick on the outer edge and a wooden wick in the center.

After placing the candle on a fire-proof dish and removing the label, the outer cotton wick is lit and then it spirals downward to melt the wax on the outer edge.

The candle continues to burn around the exterior and then fills the center well.

The spiraling wick extinguishes itself out when the inner level of wax is equal to the outer level of wax.  This process prevents spillage over the sides and creates a pretty pillar.

The second wooden wick can be trimmed to 1/4″ and then is lit to allow the remaining pillar burn  down.  I was sent the Spiral Light Candle in Cabernet.  Cabernet provided a delicious and soft scent of sweet grapes.

The idea to create Spiral Light Candles started off a Hobby Lobby candle kit that made a messy creation.  After experimenting in the creator’s (Aaron McWilliam’s) basement, it expanded to the garage, and then an addition.  Spiral Light Candles has expanded to make its home in a renovated potato warehouse located in Hillsboro.

Spiral Light Candles are available in small, medium, and large.  The small spiral candle is 3″x 3″ and is priced at $9.95.  The price goes up to $22.95 for a large, 4″ x 6″ candle.

Spiral Light Candle also manufactures a Christian Candle that has a wooden wick on the side of the candle that you can write your intention on and then place the wick in the metal clip inside the candle.  It also has a spiral wick that is lit first and then pools the wax around the central wooden wick with your intention to be lit later when the wax has pooled.
