Speedeebee! Spelling and Vocabulary Game

IMG_1465 I love it when learning can be fun.  Blue Orange Games has been awarded the 2013 Teacher’s Choice Award for the Family Award by Learning Magazine in honor of their game, Speedeebee!

Speedeebee! is a fast-paced word game that is fun and interactive.  It helps improve skills of spelling, vocabulary, and reaction time.  Speedeebee! has also been approved by teachers as a great product for at-home education.

IMG_1468Speedeebee! is recommended for players, ages eight to adult.  It is for two-six players so great for family fun.  The game includes four dice, 50 cards, and instructions in a travel-friendly tin canister.  There are 150 fun challenges – three per card.

IMG_1470 It’s great how this game requires minimal set-up.  There are 20 cards placed face down as the draw pile.  The rest of the cards stay in the tin.  A player picks up a card from the tin and reads the challenge to all the players.  It may be a personal question,  ‘Name something that smells bad (to you), containing this letter (throw the die of your choice)’ or something general, ‘Name something you could find on a farm, containing this letter (throw the die of your choice)’.

The first player to state the answer wins the card.  Then it is the winner’s turn to draw the next card and recite the challenge which matches the color on the back of the card that they just won on.  There are blue, green, and red cards.  If your answer is incorrect, you do lose one of your cards.  The game is over when the last card from the central pile has been used.  The player with the most cards wins.

There is a second option of play called “Freestyle”.  Players make up the challenges and just use the cards to count points.

Speedeebee! has a great variety of challenges so it’s different every time you play.  My oldest is a kindergartner, but reads at first grade level.  She needs help at times, but still enjoys the concept of Speedeebee! and I like how it helps build vocabulary and spelling in a fun and exciting way.

Disclosure:  I received Speedeebee! for this review.  No other compensation was received.  The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.
