I received a Sparkler LED Whip ‘N’ Skip by Geospace to help handle the winter that is certainly up us. We were recently at -25° F with about a foot of snow falling recently so it’s good to have plenty of indoor activities lined up.
To use the Whip ‘N’ Skip, just put the hoop around your ankle and get the base spinning. You can hop, skip or jump over the attached line as it circles around you. If you are a competitor, you can download a Boing! – O – Meter from the iPhone AppStore and challenge your friends.
The Whip ‘N’ Skip has six LED lights. Here you can see three of them. There is an on/off switch so you can decide if you want the lights on. They are motion activated.
This product requires 3 AG13 batteries, but there is a set included. A built-in counter is on the unit too. It reminds me of a pedometer. It was fun to track the revolutions. If you really get the Whip ‘N’ Skip going to where the base does not touch the floor, the counter can miss a few rounds.
To truly view how the Geospace Whip ‘N’ Skip works, I had my husband demonstrate using it. My five and seven-year-old have tried a couple of times, but have had a hard time mastering how to send it around and yet be on time to jump over it so hopefully it will come with more practice. The packaging says this product is for those ages 5 and up, but the website says seven and above. I think seven and above is more realistic from watching my kids with this toy. The cord is 30″ long.
Overall, I think the flashing lights are attractive to kids and anything to entice physical activity is a good thing. The built-in counter gets a bit less accurate if you are really moving and swinging the base around and it is not touching the ground and I would suggest this product for children seven and above from the personal experience with my own children.
Geospace’s Sparkler LED Whip ‘N’ Skip may be purchased on the website or on Amazon.com. It retails for about $17.99 per unit.
