Shimmer and Splash: The Sparkling World of Sea Life is written and illustrated by Jim Arnosky, who has written and illustrated numerous children’s books with his focus on nature. This book is a hardcover and is recommended for children 6-10 years of age. Shimmer and Splash features over 200 marine species, including dolphins, stingrays, swordfish, jellyfish, and sharks.
This title features beautifully illustrated ocean creatures and stories by Mr. Arnosky. The stories share facts and personal experiences with each section of sea life. There are seven foldout pages to feature facts and drawings of these amazing and sometimes elusive creatures of the deep blue waters. My four-year-old is mainly fascinated by the images, but does sit tight and listen to the stories. My six-year-old has enjoyed discovering many new facts too.
Shimmer and Splash is a fascinating 40 page read for children. It will certainly spur or further a child’s interest in sea life. This book would be great to share in a small classroom setting too.
