With the holidays and visits from more family and friends, I spend a bit more time trying to keep my home tidy. I was looking forward to trying the new Shark® Genius™ Steam Pocket® Mop System, model number S5003.
What’s inside the box?
- Two Dirt Grip™ Pads
- Genius™ Mop Head
- Steam Mop Handle
- Manual and owner’s guide
- Plastic Water Flask
*It is not recommended to use this product on unsealed wood or unglazed ceramic floors On surfaces that have been treated with wax and on some non-wax floors, the sheen may be removed by the heat and steam action. Test an area of floor to be cleaned before proceeding and to check the care instructions from the floor manufacturer.
The steam mop assembly is pretty self-exclamatory. The water tank will need to be filled before use and has a drop down door for easy filling and closure. Distilled water is recommended.
You will want to also attach a Dirt Grip™ pad before using too. Two pads are included with this product. First, press the pad release tab on the back of the unit to drop down both sides of the mop head. There are insert pockets on the four corners of the pad that you just slip over the mop head. Then the head needs to be gently brought to one side of the floor toward one side of the pad for it to click into place. The same is done to lock in the other side of the head.
Removing the pads from this product keeps your hands clean. The mop should be lifted straight up by the handle until the mop head is hanging straight down. I like doing this right over a laundry basket. Simply press the pad release button and then both sides of the head will drop open and release the pad.
The Shark Genius™ Steam Pocket® Mop System has Intelligent Steam Control®.
There are 3 settings –
Low – laminate, hardwood, and marble
Medium – hardwood, marble, tile, and stone
High – tile, stone, hardwood, and marble
There is also the option of Steam Blaster™. This provides an extra burst of steam and can be used with the low, medium, and high settings.
It takes about 30 seconds for the mop to start producing steam. Then its available to travel across the floor as you wish to clean. It takes 15 passes over the same area to sanitize it.
I have used a steam mop in the past and really like the washable Dirt Grip Pads. They are made with fibers specially designed to absorb and trap dirt. They are less likely to cause streaking and floors dry faster. It is recommended that the pads be replaced after 20 normal uses. They may be machine washed with warm water and liquid detergent, separately.
