Rose and the Lost Princess is geared for children 9 and up. Rose was an orphan who was taken in by Mr. Fountain. She was to serve as one of his help and to be his magician’s apprentice. She need assistance to harness her powers of magic. Rose learns that magic is not always appreciated and has a hard time with people trusting her due to her powers. Then the princess of their country is kidnapped and Rose must help find her. She and her close friends work together, trying to bring her safely back home.
This book should be a hit among young readers. It may be a little scary with including the story of a bad magician who seeks eternal youth by drinking children’s blood. Rose helps the children escape from the bad magician near the beginning, but otherwise I thought this book not scary and age appropriate. Rose and the Lost Princess has elements of magic with spells and “Gus” the talking cat, adventure and mystery in finding the lost princess, friendship, teamwork, and even a bit of diplomacy.
