Review of Creative Steps and Reader’s Discount Code

May 15, 2012 by Karen

I love every chance I get to break out the craft supplies with my daughters.  They have such unique tastes and their final projects always voice their own individuality.  I try to include them in cooking as much as I can too.  They learn new skills and seem a bit more receptive to eating what they help prepare versus food that is just placed in front of them at the kitchen table.

I recently reviewed Creative Steps Magazine, which has the motto of “Helping Kids Learn Through Creative Play”, through a campaign with Karma Media.  It has great crafting and cooking projects for kids, plus much more.

Creative Steps is based out of the UK so the measurements took a little converting and a few of the supplies were new to me.  It took a little research to find a suitable replacement if needed.  The supplies/materials needed for the projects appear to be fairly inexpensive or are common enough to already have on hand.
I think one unique feature to this magazine is how it has activities broken down by the child’s age.  There is a section of content for 0-5 years, 5-7 years, and 7-11 years.  They have done the work for you on recommending age appropriate activities for your child.  There are also age appropriate books that have been selected and reviewed in the “Reading Corner” for each age group.

We tried the Printed Collage Card featured in Creative Steps Magazine, Spring 2012, on pages 46-47 this last weekend.  My daughters decided to distribute them as Mother’s Day cards.

It’s amazing what colored paper, yarn, and some paint can create!  We ran out of time to make paper flowers so I let my girls use some fabric flowers I had already on hand.  This project was recommended for 5-7 years of age.  My five-year-old had a blast and my three-year-old just needed more assistance in creating hers.

The projects in this publication are nicely laid out and have large, attractive photos included.  My five-year-old loved flipping through the pages by herself.  There are so many great activities and projects to try in this magazine.  If there is a rainy day this summer or if my children and I just need a change of pace, Creative Steps will certainly be my inspiration.
