Recently, I had the opportunity to try Nero Kwik Media software and to make a photobook. Nero Kwik Media software allows you to create high-quality photobooks, calendars, and greeting cards. The program is Windows based and takes up about 1 GB of hard drive space. Nero Kwik Media also allows you to manage, share, and sync photos, videos, and music. It also includes tools to edit and enhance photos, create slide shows, post videos and photos to social networks, and burn content.
A press release at http://www.nero.com/eng/pressreleases.html?id=1968 said the following about the new software: “Photos in the Nero Kwik Media library can be tagged and filtered using facial recognition technology so they can be located quickly. Once the preferred photos, cover materials and background theme are selected, the software pre-populates the entire project.”
Review:
The software was easy to install. After it was installed, and with the first use, it scanned my computer for media: pictures, videos, and music. I only had photos on my computer to build a library of.
I then went about building a photo book. I think there was a nice variety of covers. I did a book with a leather cover. I was hoping for more choices with themes, but maybe since this is new, more maybe will be added later.
After you have selected the photos that you would like to have included, Nero automatically places them in your book. There is no wait time to upload your photos with this software. With editing, you can change size of the images and layout within the page borders. You can also add wording/captions to every page if you would like. I just did wording on my first page for this book.
The other features to the editing software were a bit unique. You could zoom in on your photo, change the center of picture, and standard crop feature. There was also the ability to change the photo to sepia, black and white, framed, vignette, and others. The editing features are a bit more than some other programs I have used.
One problem I ran into was while working on the book, is updates. I okayed them when they came up and then the program would close. I would get the cover and theme back, but not all of my pictures so then I would have to place them back in the book. I am guessing this is a glitch with being new that will hopefully be worked out in the near future.
Lastly, I wished when viewing my photos on the page, there would have been a way to view them close up or enlarge them more. They were a bit hard for me to evaluate, outside of clicking on each image and that took up more time.
Nero Kwik Media gives you a maximum bar status with selecting photos so you know when you should stop before having additional pages to pay for. It gives you a price for the book without shipping on the bottom corner so you can see a running tally of charges before you get to checkout and have a good idea of what to expect. Photobooks start off at $9.99 and go up to $29.99 plus shipping. Time for printing and delivery is good.
Here are some pictures showing off my book:
Binding seems to be well done
Pros:
- Ease of installing software
- Additional editing tools compared to some other photobook companies
- Good quality of photobook
- Decent price
- Ability to use and share multiple media with one program
- No wait for photos to be uploaded
Cons:
- Not many themes currently available
- Updates may cause program to shut down and loose part of your project
- More difficult to evaluate image quality/sharpness of photos while designing book
Disclosure: This post is part of a SocialMoms product evaluation, for which I’ve been selected. One free photo book was made available to me for review purposes. I’ve been compensated for my time with a $100 PayPal payment. The opinions expressed in this post are mine and don’t necessarily reflect the opinions of SocialMoms or Nero.
