It’s probably pretty safe to say most of us have had an episode of the hiccups at one time or another. Hiccups are caused by the involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscles. Usually they are just a nuisance, but can sometimes mean something more serious. I just read as we age, the tendency to get hiccups decreases. Yea…one plus to getting older.
Hicural is a safe remedy to get rid of the hiccups. It is made of a polypropylene compound and is an over the counter tool. Hicural may be purchased at www.hicural.com for $7.99 with free shipping. It is not intended to relieve “chronic” hiccups.
Instructions are included with the device, which is in a portable plastic, capped at one end. This makes it easy for transport in a purse or older child’s backpack. You need to gently tap the tube to get the device out. Hicural is to not be used by children under age 4. Children under age 10 are to use only under close adult supervision due to being a potential choking hazard.
The directions are easy to follow. Hold Hicural with tab facing inward toward mouth. Make sure curved side of the Hicural tab is pointing up and flat side facing down. Place Hicural in the mouth until it reaches the outer corners.
Gently bite down and slowly drink a cup of water. Hiccup relief should occur within 30 seconds. If hiccups do not stop; repeat steps one and two.
I experienced one episode of hiccups during this review period and grabbed Hicural to try. By the time I had Hicural in place and before actually swallowing water, they stopped! Before putting it away, simple clean with warm water and soap. It is recommended to replace yearly.
Pros of Hicural:
- Portable carrying case included
- Great strength and longevity typically with polypropylene
- Polypropylene is BPA free
- Safe and simple treatment for hiccups
- Very light weight
Cons of Hicural:
- To me, polypropylene is hard and found it a little uncomfortable to the inside corners of my lips
- If using in public, may be given a long look/stare by onlookers due to its appearance (6″ long and 1/4″ wide) while being placed in the mouth if they are unfamiliar with device.
Hicural was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Sacramento, California. It is made in the USA.
