We have been on the go lately with short trips to our local state parks and off to swimming lessons. Funky Monkey freeze-dried fruit snacks have been with us on the go to sample and review.
Funky Monkey comes in seven flavors:
- Applemon-freeze-dried apples and organic cinnamon
- Bananamon-freeze-dried organic bananas and organic cinnamon
- Carnaval Mix-freeze-dried organic banana, organic pineapple, papaya, and apple
- JiveALime-freeze-dried organic pineapple and lime juice
- MangoOJ-freeze-dried mango and orange juice
- Pink Pinapple-freeze-dried organic pineapple and guava
- Purple Funk-freeze-dried organic banana and organic acai
Funky Monkey is made in Brazil, near where the fruit used in these snacks is grown. They are then freeze-dried and packaged into 1 oz. or 0.42 oz bags. This line of snacks is made with 100% real fruit, 100% fat free, gluten free, no added flavors or preservatives, peanut and tree nut free, and have no sugar added. Funky Monkey freeze-dried fruit is made from full slices of fruit, not diced pieces.
Each of the 0.42 oz. bags of Funky Monkey that I was sent to review had an added bonus. Each bag had 1 serving of fruit (the USDA defines 1/4 cup of freeze-dried fruit as 1 serving of fruit).
Funky Monkey freeze-dried snacks withhold most of the nutrients versus regular dried fruit, which retains about 45% of the original nutrients present in fresh fruit. This snack does have a great crunch. My personal favorite was JiveALime. It was sweet with the pineapple, but the lime juice added a splash of tartness.
I think for my family, the 1 oz. bags would be more practical. I ended up sharing the 0.42 oz. bags with my children and usually got to taste just a few pieces. Although, if any pieces were not quickly consumed, especially with high humidity and temps (in the mid-90’s here lately in MN), they became chewy within a few hours after opening. It is recommended to store Funky Monkey Snacks in a cool and dry place and to consume immediately after opening.
