Dryel was a product that I was intrigued by over the last few years, but was afraid to purchase because I thought it might be too complicated. I have some hand wash only items that get pulled our for special occasions and was curious how well Dryel would work. It was great to come across the opportunity to review and finally take the plunge and try Dryel.
Dryel is made by the oneCARE Company. The oneCARE Company was founded in 2007. They manufacture more than 500 products in the categories of laundry, pet, and cleaning consumer products. Their headquarters are located in Alpharetta, GA.
In December 2011, oneCARE Company announced several improvements had been made to Dryel. Now not only would Dryel be known with its ability to launder dry clean only clothes, but also to be good for sweaters, dark denim, and other clothing favorites with the features of not shrinking, stretching, or fading.
“The new kit will include a heat-activated cleaning solution that combines zinc ricinoleate and triethylene glycol, a proprietary mixture that results in stain, odor and bacteria elimination.”
As a consumer, the Cleaning Booster Spray is to be used on areas that may need more attention: neckline, underarms, and collar. Then the garment is to placed into the Dryel Reusable Protection Bag with a Dryel ULTRAcleaningTM Cloth, and then to toss the bag into the dryer. Thirty minutes later, the clothes are gently and thoroughly cleaned. The packaging has had a facelift to make it easier for consumers to find on the shelf also.
Review:
The Dryel Starter Kit (suggested retail $6.97) contains a Dryel bag, designed to protect garments from excessive heat produced by the dryer, cleaning spray, and two cleaning sheets.
Refill kits are also available for purchase (suggested retail $6.86) and contain the cleaning spray and six cleaning sheets.
I gave Dryel a hard test subject. My husband’s dress shirt that was sitting in the closet for several months and had not been cleaned. My husband had forgotten to give it to me to be laundered. It had some staining around the collar.
I saturated the collar with the cleaning booster spray.
I then opened the one ULTRAcleaning Cloth and placed it in the reusable fabric protection bag. You can place 1-4 garments in the bag if they are of similar color.
Tumble dry in dryer on medium heat for 30 minutes.
Here is the shirt after being laundered with Dryel. My husband and I were both surprised that Dryel was definitely able to lighten the collar staining and did a nice job with cleaning overall. I had doubted it making any difference with the discoloration being old. Dryel left a light pleasant scent and did not smell like harsh chemicals.
I don’t know why I hesitated so long in trying Dryel. It did an impressive job with my husband’s dress shirt and we will use it with other pieces of apparel, especially those that say hand wash or dry clean only.
