The city of Red Wing has been selected as a finalist in the Small Business Revolution’s Main Street nationwide contest. Red Wing now seeks the support of all Minnesotans to vote for the beautiful river city and help them win the contest. Out of 14,000 cities nominated, Red Wing is one of five cities competing to win a $500,000 revitalization package.
The Small Business Revolution was created in 2015 by Deluxe Corporation, in celebration of its 100th anniversary, with a goal of showcasing 100 small business stories across the country. In 2016, Deluxe introduced the “Small Business Revolution on Main Street,” which awards a $500,000 prize package to one small town. Now in its second season, the contest’s 2016 winner was the city of Wabash, Indiana. Deluxe Corporation has been helping small businesses since 1915 and offers checks, marketing, printing services and more.
“We are extremely honored that Red Wing has been selected as a finalist, with the potential of a $500,000 revitalization makeover for our city, including six lucky businesses,” said Megan Tsui, executive director of Red Wing Downtown Main Street. “We are grateful for the chance to receive help for some of the many wonderful local businesses here in Red Wing, and make our beautiful city even better.”
The first round of winners in the contest consisted of eight cities, which were narrowed down to five today, after the Small Business Revolution visited each city. The winner will be chosen by online voting, so the Red Wing community is seeking support. “We know there are folks all over Minnesota, and the country, that love Red Wing. Maybe they’ve stayed at one of our amazing bed and breakfasts, seen a show at the historic Sheldon Theatre, or they have purchased a pair of boots made by craftsman right here in Minnesota. We’re calling on them to help us win this contest,” noted Red Wing Mayor Sean Dowse.
