Quiet Books Project

October 27, 2011 by Karen

Back in June, I got the idea to finally tackle a project that was in a newsletter from Money Saving Mom, the original post is by Kojo Designs for a “quiet book”.  This project was listed as a way to de-stash and I certainly have collected my share of scrapbooking paper and embellishments over the years that I thought would work for this project.

This is what was listed for materials and a general idea of how to do the project.
Information on Kojo Designs:

What you need:
12 sheets of white 5.5 X 8 1/2 paper for the inside pages
2 sheets of hard cardstock (5.5 X 8 1/2 inches) for the front/back cover
Hole puncher
Three rings to hold book together
Glue/tape
Sticky velcro dots
Hot glue gun
Self Laminating paper
My free template
4 inch piece of ribbon (with burned edges)
and a bunch of scrapbook paper!

This project is pretty self-explanatory. It can be explained in 7 easy steps:
1. Glue all of the main objects to the white paper and make all of the corresponding pieces.
2. Laminate everything.
3. Cut out the separate pieces and trim the edges of the main pages.
4. Add sticky velcro dots to everything that needs them.
5. Three-hole punch all of the pages.
6. Add rings.
7. Hot glue the ribbon to the back of the book, wrap it around front and add a velcro dot to keep closed!

Voila! Now go to your own closets (I assume I’m not the only one?) and get to “destashing”!!

There is a nine page template to download and/or just print.  I would love anyone who is familiar with a program to make these images in to svg format.  If you have a Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software, it would be a breeze to make all the cut outs.  I think you could do it with InkScape, but I haven’t had the time to try.

Here is what they looked like this morning.  I need to go through and just do a final check on the pages before mailing them out~

Stack ice cream on the cone

Place the kites on the opposite page

Put letters in the mailbox

3 layer cake and candle.  I didn’t realize the girls had touched this one and put pieces in a different order

2 windows and door to put on the house

Instead of creating just one to try, I wanted to make one for each of my daughters, my college roommate’s daughter, an old c0-worker’s daughter, and my two nieces to try and help occupy them this fall when there new baby brother comes next month.

It unfortunately took me several months to get back into the project and finish.  I ran out of self-laminating sheets and need to order the o-rings.  Then it was just a matter of finding the time and area to work on them again.

I hope the girls like them.  Layne took hers up to her bunk bed and played with it for quite a while this afternoon.  She wants to take it with tomorrow when Jayden is at her 1 1/2 hr. class and she is visiting grandma.

I did not see an age recommendation for the books.  I am hoping some of the girls aren’t too young for them.  Layne will be five next month and Jayden, who will be three next month, hasn’t spent time with hers yet.
