PetzLife Oral Care Gel

Oral care in our pets is just as important as it is to us.  “It’s estimated that by the age of two, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats have some form of periodontal disease.” explains Dr. René Carlson, president of the AVMA. Peggy and Harry were sedated last year and had dental cleanings done.  They even had a few teeth extracted.  My oldest daughter was fairly regular with using a CET toothpaste and brushes on Peggy and Harry since they came to us last July, but they were already showing some plaque coming back on their teeth.  I did some research and ran across some very promising reviews on PetzLife Complete Oral Care as a natural means of removing tartar and asked the company if I could try it out.

I did not put much thought into the difficulty of taking an image of their teeth, but it was very challenging!  The first set of images were taken March 2, 2014, right before starting PetzLife Oral Care Gel.

To use PetzLife Oral Cleansing Gel, there is a weight chart on the bottle instructing you on how much to use.  Peggy and Harry are in a size that is 1/4 teaspoon per application so a pretty small amount.  The gel is to be applied into the pet’s mouth, directly on the gumline if possible to speed up results.

Harry and Peggy enjoy the flavor of the PetzLife Oral Care Gel in the salmon oil.  Don’t worry about the smell with having a fish oil.  It smells like mint so it helps freshen their breath.

The labeling does state that to remove buildup, apply twice daily until the plaque and tartar have dissolved (noticeable results in 30 days).  If using as a preventative, apply 2-3 times per week or it can be used daily.  Results may vary.

I started using the product twice a day since especially Harry had some noticeable tartar.  I will admit there were a few second doses missed and for best results, food and water are to be withheld for at least half an hour after application.  It was no problem having the food pulled.  I sometimes forgot their water bowls were down yet in the morning after the first application in the day.  The second dose was a lot easier.  I would put it on late at night before enclosing them in their kennel for the night so no temptation of food or drink then.

After using about a month, I was able to take my fingers and chip off a substantial sized piece of tartar off of Harry’s upper right premolar.  I still need time to work on the upper left premolar.  Peggy had some brown material on her teeth, but I took my nail to it tonight after viewing these photos and quite a bit of it scraped off.  Their breath is pleasant and even though Harry has some tartar to work on yet, the gumline looks healthy on him and on Peggy too.

PetzLife Complete Oral Care is 100% natural and safe for dogs and cats.  The ingredients are: distilled water, grain alcohol, wild salmon oil (for this flavor), xanthan gum, peppermint oil, grape fruit seed extract, grape seed extract, thyme oil, neem oil.  This product comes in a 4 oz. bottle and surprising lasts quite a while.  It is made in the USA and comes in 4 oz. peppermint spray, peppermint gel, and the salmon oil gel.

Although I have not gotten 100% resolution of Peggy and Harry’s dental issues, I do feel PetzLife Oral Care Gel has started to reverse the signs of dental disease and I plan to continue using the product.  Personally for me, twice a day has been hard to do.  Once a day would be a breeze and it just takes applying the gel to a finger and applying it to the gumline.  The saliva will help spread it around and then to wash hands.  This would be in comparison to applying pet toothpaste to the brush, trying to use for at least a minute before the dogs lick it off the brush, and then clean-up.

PetzLife Complete Oral Care 4 oz. spray or gel has a suggested retail price of $24.99.  It is also available in a 12 oz. size.  To learn more about PetzLife Complete Oral Care, please visit http://www.petzlife.com/catalog/oral-care-products.html.  It can be purchased through the website and other retailers like Amazon.com carry the products.

Disclosure:  I received a sample of this product in exchange for an honest review.  No other compensation was received.  The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.
