Disclosure: I received three sackpacks for an honest review. No other compensation was received for this post. Information was provided to me from The Office Depot Foundation.
I wanted to share with you a neat program provided by the Office Depot Foundation. The Office Depot Foundation is a non-profit charitable giving arm of Office Depot, Inc. that works to enhance quality of life for kids, families, and communities worldwide.
Many children have difficulty starting the school year with a backpack and essential school supplies simply because their families can not afford them. The Office Depot Foundation and its National Backpack Program are working to help change this. Over the past 12 years, they have provided more than 2.9 million backpacks to children around the world.
This year, to mark the 13th anniversary of the National Backpack Program, the Office Depot Foundation will donate 300,000 backpacks with essential school supplies to deserving children in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and internationally. By the end of 2013, Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation will have donated more than 3 million backpacks and sackpacks since the inception of the program in 2001. But while these numbers are very large, the sackpacks make an impact on a singular level − one child at a time.
This year’s sackpacks are designed in six different color combinations with graphics kids enjoy. Each sackpack contains a zippered pouch with a pen, pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, 6″ ruler, and four crayons. They do not have any visible Office Depot Foundation or Office Depot logos or markings.
The sackpacks have a nylon rope to go over the child’s shoulders and the top of the bag cinches closed by pulling on these ropes. The front of the sackpack has a catchy image that has been screen printed on. They are made to be suitable for children 5 years and above.
