Last month, I was asked if I would like to participate in Piedra Azul’s Tequila Dip and Sip Challenge in honor of National of Gucamole Day, which is Monday, September 16th.
I was sent Gaby Dalkin’s new book, Absolutely Avocados for inspiration. Gaby is a food blogger for WhatsGabyCooking.com.
Until reading Gaby’s book, I had no idea how versatile avocados could be! I made Gaby’s Irish Nachos on the grill to go with our burgers. Delicious!
I also received a bottle of Piedra Azul Blanco Tequila and a $25 gift card from Whole Foods to make the items for our gathering.
Piedra Azul is crafted from 100% blue agave weber. It is soft and sweet with a hint of citrus. It is much more smooth than some other brands I have had in the past.
Now National Guacamole Day would not be done justice without sharing some facts about avocados.
- The avocado dates back to almost 10,000 years ago in Mesoamerica, and the use of guacamole dates all the back to the
times of the Aztecs! - Avocados are one of the most traded tropical fruit in the world.
- Mexico is the world’s largest producer of avocados.
- Mexico is the only place in the entire world where avocado trees
can bloom naturally four times a year, resulting in annual harvest
of avocados. - When European sailors reached Central America, they used
avocados in place of butter. - You can help to prevent an opened avocado from becoming brown
by sprinkling lemon juice on it and refrigerating the avocado in a
plastic bag.I wanted to share a few recipes with you from our celebration. Since the weather is getting cool and fall is soon approaching, we grilled and shared a fall-themed adult beverage.
