I received an e-Book version of More Than a Bucket List through BookSneeze.com in return of an honest review.
I think the 2007 movie titled The Bucket List with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson made having a “bucket list”, things to do before you kick the bucket, into a common household term. Toni Birdsong writes in the introduction of More Than a Bucket List
“…the older we get, the faster time seems to speed by. As our time on earth gets shorter, the list of promises we make to ourselves tends to get longer.”
My spouse and I were talking just the other day of how time seems to be flying by as we tackle our daily lives with work, children, school, and everything else day to day. More Than a Bucket List is to help view your accomplishments in life from God’s point of view. These can be the big things, like a trip to Europe or the wonderful moments that happen daily, like the accomplishments in parenting or just baking your own bread.
The chapters to this book are fairly short and I like that you can then utilize what was written and if needed, apply it. I wish I had a physical copy of the book versus e-Book due for this reason. It would be nice to read a chapter or two and sit down to re-visit with not have to turn on my computer every time I wanted to read the book (have Kindle on my computer).
It would have preferred to see this book elaborate a bit more in a few chapters, like for LIVE DEBT FREE. It’s awesome to do, but maybe for those who are trying to get to that point, provide some reputable resources and elaborate more on the envelope system mentioned. Personal research like suggested on budgeting tool and methods is certainly very important too. There is a REAL LIFE CHALLENGE included at the end to many of the chapters to make you go a little out of your comfort zone in order to grow as an individual or just take a moment of prayer and self reflection.
This book will give you many ideas that you can use to create your own “bucket list”. I thought some ideas presented were a bit out there, but take them with a bit of humor and keep an open mind on what can make every day count for you.
More Than a Bucket List made me reflect on accomplishments from my past in a “reverse bucket list”. It was great to pull up those old memories. This book gave me a warm fuzzy feeling with the great quotes and scripture provided and has reminded me to enjoy the little things again, like having even a “nothing day” from now and then or a pajama day like my oldest daughter loves is okay.
In closing, one quote shared from More Than a Bucket List that is a personal favorite – “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” —George Eliot
