One new movie that has been on our frequent playlist at home is the Minions. This prequel to the Dispicable Me and Despicable Me 2 is highly entertaining. The Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital HD came out on December 8 with three new mini-movies. The Minions is great fun for the entire family during this busy holiday season and travels well. 🙂
The Minions start off as single-celled organisms that evolve through time and find joy in serving the most despicable master. They start of with following a Tyrannosaurus rex and later serving individuals like Dracula and Napoleon.
When the Minions are left without a despicable master, they become extremely depressed and feel their life is without purpose. One Minion, named Kevin, yet has hope and seeks a few individuals to join him on his quest to save the tribe by finding a new master.
Stuart and little Bob join him. They go to a villain convention and the trio finds Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock), the world’s first female super-villain during the 1960’s. Under her direction, they take on a mission full of adventure and mayhem in London.
Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, Gravity) heads up an all-star voice cast including Golden Globe and recent Emmy Award®-winner Jon Hamm (“Mad Men,” Bridesmaids), Academy Award-nominee Michael Keaton (Birdman: (Or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance, Toy Story 3), seven-time Emmy Award-winner Allison Janney (“The West Wing,” “Masters of Sex,” “Mom”), Academy Award-nominee Steve Coogan (Despicable Me 2, Philomena), BAFTA Award-winner Jennifer Saunders (“Absolutely Fabulous,” Shrek 2), and Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech, Pirates of the Caribbean series). The inimitable voices of the Minions are again voiced by Academy Award-nominee Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2) who co-directs with Kyle Balda (Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax). Minions is produced by Illumination Entertainment CEO and founder Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. Brian Lynch wrote the screenplay, and Chris Renaud serves as executive producer of the film.
