When I was in high school, I was first introduced to the amazing vocal and instrumental talents of Michael W. Smith. One of our high school graduation songs was actually his FRIENDS, which I still find extremely touching with graduations a plenty this time of year and facing my 20 year reunion next month. Michael W. Smith has an amazing talent to sing songs that are filled with inspiration, worship, and raw emotion.
Sovereign, the newest title by Michael W. Smith was released May 13, 2014. The inspiration for this album came from memories of 1999 with the tragic events that took place at Columbine High School. Michael W. Smith still remembers seeing the images unfold on television.
He and Amy Grant were asked to perform at the memorial service after this tragedy. He said that he had never experienced anything like the pain of those that gathered for the service with 15 lives lost. This event fed his passion to reach out to kids who so desperately need our help. SOVEREIGN OVER US, the title track, carries the message that with all the adversities, trials, and tribulations we all go through everyday, God is good amidst all this craziness.
