I had not seen the first film since it came out 10 years ago. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has us going back and forth in time—showing how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present—James plays the role of Young Donna. Filling the roles of Young Rosie and Young Tanya are ALEXA DAVIES (A Brilliant Young Mind) and JESSICA KEENAN WYNN (Broadway’s Beautiful). Young Sam is played by JEREMY IRVINE (War Horse), while Young Bill is JOSH DYLAN (Allied) and Young Harry is HUGH SKINNER (Kill Your Friends).
As the story takes you back and forth from present day to 1979, you learn of how a high-spirited young Donna Sheridan, Young Tanya, and Young Rosie – a.k.a. Donna and The Dynamos – graduate from Oxford University and then Donna decided to take on exploring the world. She travels to Europe and ends up in Kalokairi.
While out on this journey, Donna meets young Harry in Paris, Bill on his sailboat, and Sam in Greece. Donna loves a local tavern and is offered to sing there. She finds shelter in a pretty much-abandoned farmhouse and not long after, discovers that she is expecting.
In present-day Kalokairi, Sophie Sheridan, Donna’s daughter, with the support of Sam, her step-father, and possible dad, have been working to restore the old farmhouse and naming it Hotel Bella Donna in honor of Donna with her passing the year before.
Sophie with the help of Sam has planned a grand opening celebration. Unfortunately, a storm hits the island. Transportation and communication have been affected. A reunion is still able to take place and Sophie and Sky discover they have a secret of their own to share. Catch up on the beautiful songs by ABBA and this uplifting story of Donna in her early years with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
