I’m not a huge coffee drinker, but I do enjoy a flavored coffee once in a while. Summer is great for an iced coffee treat.
I had recently read of making your own iced coffee and thought I’d try give it a go. With whatever quantity you make, you want to do it at a ratio of 4:1 (water:ground coffee). Measuring doesn’t have to be exact. So if you use 1/4 c. coffee grounds, you want about 1 c. water. This will make about 2-3 glasses of iced coffee.
I used well water, but I have read some say better flavor from bottled or filtered water. Simply mix coffee and water in a pitcher until well blended, place cover on it and let sit over night, about 12 hours. Then run mixture through a filter and place strained liquid into another container (pitcher, carafe, jar with lid). Pour what you would like into glass and refrigerate the rest.
With what you have in your glass, add a some water because cold brewed is about 2-3 times stronger than heat brewed. You can add ice, creamer, milk, sugar or a little condensed milk, etc. to create your preferred taste. Enjoy!
I was pleasantly surprised on how the flavor was strong, but not as acidic as heat brewed coffee. I’ve read how only 15% of the acid and oils make it through with cold brewed coffee. The caffeine content is said to be the same.
