Outer Spice has been around for four years and is based out of Austin, Texas. The company was founded by Ben Stevens. Ben had traveled to the Caribbean in search of an alternative, natural remedy for a severe case of food poisoning he had been dealing with. After learning of the healing powers of herbs and spices firsthand, he began to study their flavors complexities and nutritional values.
When Ben came back to the U.S., he dried his own herbs and spices to create seasoning blends. He tested the blends on friends and family and then sold them out of the back of his truck at his local farmers’ market. Outer Spice was a hit!
Outer Spice is available in low salt and no salt seasoning blends. They are all natural, GMO-free and gluten-free, high in anti-oxidants, and do not contain MSG. The fresh herbs and spices used are dried in small batches to make the most flavorful blends.
There are currently four Outer Spice blends available: Outer Spice Original Low-Salt, Outer Spice Spicy-Low Salt, Outer Spice Original – No Salt, and Outer Spice Spicy – No Salt. The low salt blends are 3.75 oz. and the no salt blends are 3 oz. each. They each have a suggested retail of $6.99.
I was sent the Outer Spice Original – Low Salt and Outer Spice Spicy – No Salt to sample. The first thing I noticed was how aromatic the blends were. They seem very versatile in application and the no salt or low salt varieties would be great for someone who has to watch their daily sodium intake.
All four of these mixes can be sprinkled on veggies, pasta, salad, or even eggs. They can be used as a rub on meats or to create marinades, dips, soups, and dressings. The low salt blends contain 95 mg sodium per serving and serving size is 1/2 teaspoon.
Outer Spice Original-Low Salt: A well-balanced seasoning that is high in flavor and low in Sodium.
Ingredients: Himala ™ brand pink sea salt, garlic, black pepper, onion, allspice, nutmeg, thyme, scallions, red pepper, onion powder, peppers, cinnamon, dill, caraway and spices.
Outer Spice Spicy-Low Salt: A well-balanced seasoning designed to give any dish a little bit of kick without being too hot or eclipsing foods natural flavors.
Ingredients: Himala™ brand pink sea salt, garlic, black pepper, onion, allspice, nutmeg, thyme, scallions, red pepper, onion powder, peppers, cinnamon, dill, caraway, cayenne pepper and spices.
Outer Spice Original-No Salt: A unique combination of freshly ground herbs and spices to boost the flavor of any dish without the sodium. This is a great addition to diets requiring less sodium and really helps to bring foods to life with out the use of salt.
Ingredients: Garlic, black pepper, onion, allspice, scallions, dill, nutmeg, thyme, lemon thyme, cilantro, basil, peppers, cinnamon, caraway and other spices.
Outer Spice Spicy-No Salt: A unique combination of freshly ground herbs and spices to boost the flavor of any dish without the sodium. SPICY No Salt, has a zesty flavor profile that is a great addition to diets requiring less sodium but desiring just a little more POW.
