I had seen in a crafter’s book club these Kanzashi Flower Makers and was curious how well they worked. I am going to share the large pointed petal (CL8483). The finish size of the flower is approximately 3″. There are other sizes and there are round and pleated petals available.
Begin with a square of fabric that is folded over on itself with printed side out
Trim the edges
The plastic template is numbered and so you simply start with your needle and thread (with a knot tied in at end) at the “1” on the template. It also says “start” at the “1”.
Here is the opposite site where the thread will be carried back through the length of the template
Continue on with “2”, “3”, and so on
Here is the other side again
Here it is onto the last two numbers
Here is the fabric after taken out of the flower petal template.
Simply add tension on the thread
The fabric folds over on itself with increased tension on the thread
Here is the front with the five petals
Backside
Here it is with more tension used on the string
Here is my flower mounted on a clip with just a simple button in the center. The colors looked better than they do in this picture. It doesn’t take long to create a flower.
