Often times a foreign language is not offered in schools until the child is in the upper grades. Lonely Planet Kids has come out with a new language series for young readers. There is First Words: French and First Words: Spanish and First Words: English.
Each book has a suggested retail of $12.99. They expose kids to 100 words for objects with easy to follow pronunciation guides and colored illustrations.
First Words is recommended for children in grades K-3. I received the Spanish edition and my girls thought the book was fun. They were off reciting words for objects they recognized when the book arrived. I had a couple years of Spanish way back in high school so this book was kind of a refresher for me.
