This may make me seem old, but both my husband and I remember watching “Little House on the Prairie” as kids during the tail end of its run on television (1974-1983).  I read the first few books by Laura Ingalls Wilder when I was in elementary school and felt I had a special connection to the stories with it being about Laura’s life while growing up in southern Minnesota.

In honor of the 40th anniversary for the original pilot that aired on NBC, Lionsgate Home Entertainment released Little House on the Prairie in high-definition on Blu-ray and digital HD and DVD on March 25th.  If you are not familiar with “Little House on the Prairie”, it showcased the Ingalls family during the 19th century.  The shows provided clean entertainment with strong family values.

The show remained a top-rated series throughout its nine season run and garnered 17 Emmy® and three Golden Globe® nominations along with two People’s Choice® Awards.  “Little House on the Prairie” was produced by NBC in association with multiple Emmy® nominated and highly successful television producer Ed Friendly.  The show remains one of television’s most meaningful TV series and now loyal fans along with new viewers will be able to discover the Ingalls’ unconquerable courage as they strive to build a better way of life.

This collection features all 24 season one episodes.  They are complete and uncut with great picture and sound quality.  I think they looked more clear and crisp on these DVDs than what I remember from my childhood.  The original, 96-minute full length pilot is even included.

Little House on the Prairie – Season One Deluxe Remastered Edition features over 21 hours of entertainment.  I haven’t viewed the bonuses yet, but the original screen tests from Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert are in the set and also “The Little House Phenomenon:  Part One – A Place in Television History”, one of the newly created six-part documentary that captures a historical look back at the original series.

Blu-ray SRP: $38.99
DVD SRP: $29.98

I received a copy of Little House on the Prairie – Season One Deluxe Remastered Edition.  It has been fun sharing a hearty set of stories known from my childhood and my husband’s with our kids.  Our seven-year-old daughter is the most attentive of the three and enjoys time together learning of how the past was lived.
