Wow! This is quite a book. When reading it for the review, I didn’t know if I should take the narrator’s words and be inspired or cry as being a parent who was leaving the world too soon to enjoy it with their children.
The Legacy Letters is a collection of letters written by an unnamed narrator. He is 33-years-old in the book and has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. He is also estranged from his wife who is pregnant with their twins.
In order to not jeopardize the pregnancy, he does not share his health with her and lives his remaining moments alone in his grandfather’s cabin. While there, he writes letters to his future children with advice on love, loss, enjoying their childhood, growing up, and shares little bits about his past and pain in the reality that he will leave this world and family too soon.
The set of letters were then delivered to the family for his twins on their 10th birthday by his former attorney. There were over 200 letters and about 40 of them were used in this book.
The Legacy Letters recently won the prestigious Mom’s Choice Award for best Motivational/Inspirational Book, has been reviewed by Huff Post, Kirkus, Deseret News, and many other publications. Carew Papritz has also done numerous TV and radio interviews.
