Last Friday, I had the honor of hosting our first outdoor movie night and sharing the wonderful Kung Fu Panda 3. I love this movie because it shows that family dynamic has changed with Po having two dads and no matter how strong you are as an individual, you will need the support of friends and family from time to time. The pandas, just like us as individuals, also discover their own unique talents as they prepare to face Kai.
We had scattered showers that day until 5 p.m. and a fair amount of wind until the evening so this made us a little nervous. We were able to borrow a canopy to protect things just in case the precipitation continued to fall before moving to an indoor location.
Fox Home Entertainment sent me a box of goodies and a gift card to purchase food and decorations for the event.
I learned a few mistakes along the way on how to build an outdoor movie screen. More on that may be coming up in a future post. 😉 The frame we built was 5′ x 8′. The blackout screen I purchased for it was larger than expected.
My oldest daughter helped with some of the decorations and made old toilet paper rolls into Chinese firecrackers.
I found the idea of a DIY movie night popcorn bar from “Family Fresh Meals” and used Corey’s idea. I purchased an 8 oz. popcorn machine and we had toppings for guests to add to their popcorn.
I had yard games set out, but wagon rides from our neighbors were much more fun. This was done until it was dark enough to start the movie. 🙂 With the long days of light, it was about 9 p.m.
My husband and I were still worried by potential showers so we put the projector, DVD player, and speakers into the back of our pickup. Guests were able to pull up in front and off to the sides. The winds were pretty much non-existant by the time we started and I should have thought more about bug control. The skeeters took advantage of the calm night too!
