With living in Minnesota, the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, there is lots of places to visit and fish. I am personally not so much a fan of ice fishing, but I love bringing my portable fish finder and spending time on the lakes in the summer. I recently received the opportunity to review three products from KastKing, which is a brand and division of Eposeidon. I was sent their Orcas 2000 Spinning Reel, SuperPower Braid Fishing Line (150 yds), and a Mutli-Function Stainless Steel Fishing Pliers/Scissors/Braid Cutters/Hook Removers/Fishing Line Cutters.
The KastKing SuperPower Braid is available in tensile strengths that range from 10-50 lbs and is made of four strands. We tried out the 30 lb. line in green. This color is typically a low visibility line under water.
The SuperPower Braid has low memory. It also features zero stretch to increase sensitivity and to set your hook. This size of line has the typical thickness of an 8 lb. monofilament line and claims to be a strong as 30 lb. With this being a low friction line, it allows you to cast out further.
My spouse did try a couple different fishing knots and they had different breaking strengths when applied to this line. A slip knot/uni-knot seemed to be the strongest knots we tested with breaking around 27 lb. and was the weakest with a poacher’s knot, breaking around 13 lb. If you are partial to a certain knot, be sure to try it out before tying on your favorite lure.
Overall, KastKing SuperPowerBraid does deliver a good bang for your buck. Just use some caution with knot type.
The spool features a handy line holder.
The KastKing Orcas 2000 showcases a durable all metal body, rotor, and spool. It is sleek in design and light in feel with an aluminum alloy body. The red salmon and black color is sharp to look at.
Orcas 2000 has a weight of 10oz, max drag 26.5LB, gear ratio 5.5:1, line capacity of 0.18mm/285m, 0.20/230, 0.25/150 /. There are four different models of the Orcas. The 2000 series seems best suited for middle weight rods.
This reel features an instant stop one way anti-reverse, which is a huge plus for setting your hook. Some reels will only lock in one spot and that can cause slack in the line as it travels back to that stopping point.
Surprisingly, this feature is not advertised on Amazon.com or on the KastKing website. It was printed as a symbol on the product packaging.
KastKing Orcas have a smooth drag due the triple disc carbon fiber drag washers. There is a lot of room for adjustment to set your preferred weight in the drag.
The Power Launch Spool is longer and shallower so the line flows freely off the reel when casting.
The handle allows you to change from left or right side easily. The handle is designed to fold down, which is a plus for storage/travel. The handle is easy to grip even when it gets wet.
This reel is very smooth due to the 12 + 1 shielded stainless steel ball bearings and provides no notable vibrations when reeling in. We only fish in freshwater, but the Orcas is approved for use in saltwater too.
The KastKing Multi-Function Stainless Steel Fishing Pliers has several functions. The hook on the end of the pliers is to open split rings and sinkers.
This tool can also be used as a general pliers and assist in removing hooks. The tip of the jaws are wider than a mosquito forceps so it can be harder to remove a deeply embedded hook. Notches and grooves in the jaw are provided to crimp different styles of weights to your line to emergency crimping of electrical wire on your boat. As you move toward the pivot point of the jaws, there is a finely serrated scissors to cut the line.
The handles are great with a nice locking function to keep it closed when not in use. It is light-weight and seems durable.
KastKing provides a wide variety of products that are economical and appear to be long-lasting. The three products featured in this post are available on Amazon.com.
Disclosure: I received KastKing products for this review. No other compensation was received for this post.
