Well, today was fairly uneventful until I sat down in the afternoon with my children to have some popcorn. My youngest daughter happened to look up and then I was able to notice redness to her right sclera (white part of eye).
She had been having a little more eye discharge over the weekend that the typical “eye goobers”. My husband took her in this afternoon and was told that she had an “eye cold” or some sort of bacterial infection. We got to put the first dose of prescribed tobramycin in her eyes a little after 5 p.m. My husband thought her speech seemed a bit slurred this afternoon/eve and she wanted to cuddle and did not eat well at supper. I was chalking it up to a 2 1/2-year-old with no nap today and maybe not communicating as effectively.
Then around 7:30 p.m., we noticed a rash develop on her right cheek, legs and an arm. She also seemed to want to itch quite a bit at her cheek. Oh dear!
I called our local hospital who told me to stop her antibiotic (was half hr) til her next scheduled dose and to give her some Benadryl for the reaction. She seemed to be doing better later this night, trying to dance with her shadow that she saw on the wall. Now to talk to her doctor tomorrow and request a different antibiotic. My husband and I will probably call it a late night and sleep lightly to make sure she is okay.
