Disclosure: I received the product in the post in exchange for an honest review.
It may sound like I am living in the dark ages, but I had never used a kettlebell before. I had actually thought they were named “kettle-balls” until this review opportunity came about.
Let me tell you a little bit about Empower before breaking into the review. Empower has a passion for healthy living. Empower products are designed exclusively for women by women. This company offers fitness products, nutritional expertise, world-renowned trainers; and online communities to help you reach your goals.
Empower’s 3-in-1 Kettlebell comes with –
- Work-out DVD featuring Gin Miller, who may be best known for her early presence behind the Step Aerobics revolution
- 3-in-1 adjustable kettlebell
- Illustrated workout guide.
This kettlebell features a comfortable grip. I like using it with my fingers locked or you can do it with hands on top of each other. It has a plastic shell that is easy on nails and hands. The patented design makes it easy to change weights. You can go from 5 lbs., 8 lbs., to 12 lbs. quickly. The weights have a spring arm button that needs to be pushed down and then twist the weight counter clockwise to release the bottom weight(s) as desired. To connect the weights, hold the handle and twist the weights on by turning clockwise until you hear a “click” and the spring arm buttons line up. It is very important to hear the “click” when locking the weights back together.
The workout DVD features a warm-up, 3 complete workouts (11 minute Swing Yourself Slender-calorie blaster, 12 minute Swing Yourself Strong-upper body toning, and 14 minute Swing Yourself Sexy-lower body toning), and a cool-down.
Kettlebells are noted as being great to flatten the belly. Prevention Magazine’s August 2013 publication stated the following – A new study commissioned by the American Council on Exercise found that using the weighted orb boosted participants’ core strength by 70% after only 8 weeks. I have had fun with the kettlebell and this workout DVD. Don’t get me wrong, it IS certainly a workout and makes me sweat. It’s nice to use gravity to help swing the weights and it is noted to target my most needed area, my core. I like that this workout isn’t a bunch of fancy dance moves too since I am rather uncoordinated. The Empower 3-in-1 Kettlebell will be great to use in the winter months when I am cooped up inside and looking for a way to exercise at home.
