Over the last few weeks, I have been trying out 1ByOne‘s Wireless Sports Earphone. It is equipped with Bluetooth 4.1 and work with iOS and Android.
I have been using these earphones with my Droid 2 and laptop. If you have an iOS device, it will have a few extra features, like showing the battery life left and waking up Siri.
This product comes with a USB cable for charging, ear cushions, ear hooks, manual, velvet storage bag, and of course the earphones. There are small, medium and large pairs for the ear cushions and ear hooks.
With having an Android based phone, I could not see the battery status after I paired the earphones to my phone. I let them sit on the charger after pairing.
It takes 1.5 hours for a full charge and lasts up to 7 hours. The charge jack is situated at the back of the right ear piece.
There are three button controls on the cable below the right earpiece. The “+” and “-” controls are for volume and to track forward or back. The center button is a multi-function button. A talking mic is built into the controller.
Call Functions:
- Press the multi-function once to answer a call and once again to end the call.
- Press and hold the multi-function button for about 2 seconds to reject a call.
- Double-press the multi-function button in standby mode to redial the last call.
- Press the volume “-” for about 2 seconds to mute on/off.
- Press the volume “+” for about 2 seconds during a call, the call will be switched to the mobile phone. Redo this operation again and the call will be switched to the earphone.
- When a new call rings during an existing call, the multi-function button may be pressed once to answer the new call and end the current call all at once.
- When a new call comes in during a call, you can hold the multi-function button for 2 seconds to hold the current call and answer the new call. To switch back to the held call, hold the multi-function button for 2 seconds.
Music Functions:
- Press the multi-function button once to play/pause music. Some phones may require you to start a media player first.
- Press the volume “+” for 2 seconds once to skip track forward. Press volume “-” for 2 seconds to skip track backward.
- When a call rings while music is playing, the music automatically pauses to allow you to answer or ignore the call. Once the call is ignored or ends, the music will resume.
If the phone and earphone get too far beyond an effective range for Bluetooth connection, a voice prompt will say “connection lost” and the earphone disconnects. If there is no activity for 10 minutes, the earphone will also power off automatically.
Once your device has been paired with the earphone, it will automatically connect when the earphone is on and Bluetooth is activated.
I haven’t had the opportunity to try this yet, but with pressing volume “+” and “-” simultaneously, you will hear a beep and wait for the phone prompt. Then you can tell the phone to dial the name of a stored contact. The headphone is also capable of clearing the paired list and there is the option of a hard reset if needed.
Pairing is done by pressing and holding the multifunction button for approximately 5 seconds. I heard a female voice say “power on” and then later “pairing”. This may be just and iOS feature because I didn’t see it when using it with my phone or laptop, but the LED is to flash blue and red alternately. There is a small LED light below the plus sign on the controller. Pairing went quickly with both my laptop and phone to 1ByOne Wireless Sports Earphone.
I haven’t tried this feature yet but with multi-point technology, you can pair another phone and take a call from either. Pairing with two phones is to be just like the steps associated with one phone, but then you should restart the earphone and it will then connect to both mobile phones automatically.
I thought the sound quality was crisp and clear with apt-X HD audio and 6th generation CVC technology of the 1ByOne Wireless Sports Earphone. The ear cushions and hooks provided were comfortable to wear. This product is to be sweat-proof. Thankfully so far my set has avoided moisture. I am more of a walker than runner and they stayed in place when I was moving about.
1ByOne Wirelss Sports Earphone are available at 1byone.com and Amazon. They are currently on sale for $38.99 on Amazon currently and come in black, black and green like the set pictured, and white and gray.
