Heat Holders Review

With the temps we have experienced in Minnesota, I would say winter has been here longer than the few days it has been officially.  I was sent Heat Holders to experience a new degree of warm feet during these chilly months.

This product was created in Manchester, England by David, an avid football fan.  David was disappointed by the chill not staying away from his feet while attending the outdoor games.  He was already wearing thermal socks.

In approximately 2006, David and a team created a cashmere like acrylic yarn that had exceptional wicking and the ability to retain warmth.  Existing machines were modified to knit a sock that was brushed on the inside.  This created air pockets in the sock that kept in the warmth.  Heat Holders are 7 times warmer than regular cotton socks.

These thermal socks hold more warm air close to the skin and thus allow the feet to feel warmer for a longer duration.  They have a tog rating of 2.3.  A tog (Thermal Overall Grade) is a recognized measure of a textile’s thermal ability.  The higher the tog rating, the better a product is able to keep you warm.

Heat Holders are made with a three-step process:

  1. Advanced Insulating Yarn- provides high performance insulation against cold with superior moisture wicking abilities.
  2. Innovative knitting technology provides an extra long looped cushion pile to hold in more air.
  3. Intense brushing process that maximizes the amount of warm air held inside the sock for all-day warmth and comfort.

Heat Holders are 91% acrylic, 5% nylon, 3% polyester, and 1% elastane.  For general care of the socks, they should be washed with dark colors separately, 40° machine washable, not to be bleached or dry cleaned, and tumble dried on low.  They are also not to be ironed.  To place them on the feet, it is recommended to roll back the sock so that the loops do not catch on the toes.

Overall, Heat Holders, are very comfortable when wearing and I do feel that my feet stayed comfortably warm in them.  I put my usual boots on over them to go outside and the larger knit loop of the socks made my boots feel tighter, but did keep my feet warm for a longer duration.

The set I was initially sent had one small defect in the knitting loop.  The company graciously replaced it and it arrived today.  Otherwise, a great product to keep the chill of cool weather at bay and lower extremities much more comfortable.  I believe the website had said somewhere that Heat Holders were like wearing a cozy sweater on your feet.  That’s a great analogy!

Heat Holders are available for men, women, and kids (children 3-6 1/2 years).  They are priced at $15.99 for adults and $11.99 for kids in the original.  There are also tights and leggings available for women as well as long and boot socks ($19.99).  There are slippers ($17.99) with the grippers on the bottom for both men and women too.  This product comes in a variety of solid colors as well as striped.  The pair I received was in deep fuchsia.
