Gutzy Gear Review – Customize Your Child’s Bag

August 5, 2012 by Karen

PhotobucketGutzy Gear is a cool new way for kids to personalize the straps of their backpack, duffel bag, messenger bag, or any other bag with straps.  I have been seeing a Gutzy Gear commercial on television and I haven’t caught this part, but my daughter said that the patches (“Gutzies”) were even used on hats.

Gutzy Gear was created by two moms who are also cousins.  The business idea stemmed from their grandmother’s old golf sweater that was decorated with a variety of patches that represented the courses she had been to in her lifetime.  Lauren and Wendy, the company’s founders, worked three years on a product that would allow children to share their individual personalities and tastes.

There are currently 56 Gutzies available in Series 1 and 56 in Series 2.  New Gutzies are always being added too.  There are even Character Gutzies, like Spiderman, Sponge Bob, and more.  48 Character Gutzies are currently available.  There are also Virtual Gutzies that are only available on the Gutzy Gear website.
Gutzies are attached to the backpack strap covers by velcro.  No sewing or ironing on required.  Your child can easily change or add Gutzies.  The Gutzies can even be traded among friends.  The backpack straps are machine washable, cold, and to be line dried.  I’m not sure on the washing instructions for the Gutzies.
My daughers were very excited when Gutzy Gear arrived.  We received two sets of backpack strap covers and 8 Gutzies.  Surprisingly, no fighting between my girls on who got which Gutzy.
My oldest starts Kinder Camp tomorrow and was excited to model her look for school with her Gutzy Gear.  Kindergarten is just around the corner for us, August 21st.

An unique opportunity with the review of Gutzy Gear was having a party to share Gutzy Gear with friends.  Sweet!  It was a beautiful evening outside that night outside of about 15 minutes where rain and strong winds brought the part temporarily indoors.

Here is one of the happy party-goers with his new Gutzy Gear.
Here are some of the guests selecting Gutzies and backpack strap covers to take home at the end of the evening.  It was a great chance to get together and share Gutzy Gear.

Overall, I think Gutzy Gear is a great way for children to share something about them in a non-threatening way that could even serve as a simple conversation starter for kids.  The Gutzies are colorful and fun.  There is a huge assortment with over 100 Gutzies to select from currently.  The velcro holds well to the backpack cover straps and for parents, no sewing or ironing is a plus.
To learn more about Gutzy Gear, please visit their website and Gutzy Gear on Facebook.  There are also fun downloads available here.
Gutzy Gear may be purchased through the company website, Amazon, Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Office Depot, Shop Rite, Toys R Us, and more.  The backpack strap covers with two Gutzies runs about $9.99 and a pair of Gutzies for around $4.99.
Stay tuned for a Gutzy Gear Giveaway! 🙂
Disclosure:  I received Gutzy Gear as part of a Karma Media campaign. All opinions are 100% mine.
