It may seem crazy to say this with living in Minnesota, but we do grill all year round. Granted, we won’t try to do it on those days where a wind chill makes it -40º, but there can be sporadic days where it is nice enough to be cooking outdoors even in January.
To help my spouse and I learn a few new tips and tricks, we recently looked at Grill Skills: Professional Tips for the Perfect Barbecue.
This book was written by experts in the field:
Mia Gahne explains how to whip up the perfect barbeque sauce. Tove Nilsson shares slightly tweaked traditional barbeque dinners with all the proper sides. Liselotte Forslin creates glorious barbeque buffets for all ages and tastes. Mia Öhrn conjures up the magic of grilled desserts. Bengt-Göran Kronstam gives expert advice on wines to go with your grilled meals. Catharina Lindenberg-Bernhardsson creates ambiance by imaginatively decorating around the grill. All this is accompanied by music selected by Jan Gradvall.
Near the beginning is 80 Commandments for a Grill Master. These are some great tips for definitely the novice and even a more seasoned cook. Tove has Top Grill Tips following and then it dives into the recipe section. The recipes sound fun and flavorful. Amazing color photos are included and are on almost every other page.
The only thing I would say that surprised me a little in Grill Skills is that there weren’t a whole lot of recipes for beef. The variety is otherwise excellent.
If you enjoy entertaining, you will appreciate the ideas for table settings, which is somewhat unique to a book on grilling. There is even an idea that has you decorating with charcoal!
And don’t stop grilling after the main course. Many delicious dessert recipes adapted to the grill are also provided in Grill Skills.
