Glimmer Body Art-Party In a Box

January 25, 2012 by Karen

Within the last month, I purchased Glimmer Body Art Party In a Box as something fun to do with my girls.  I got the “Princess + Hearts” kit.  It retails for $25.00.  These glitter tattoos are said to be 100% toxic free and safe for the skin.

The kits includes four cosmetic glitters, 12 adhesive stencils, 2 piece brush set, 3 ml of cosmetic glue, and a instruction and care card.
The skin must be completely clean and dry before applying the stencil.  Choose the desired stencil design and peel off the backing.  My daughter wanted this one placed on her upper leg.

Place the stencil on the skin.

Remove the top clear layer, making sure the stencil remain flat on the skin.  This was not easy to do on the upper leg.  It was much easier on a previous tattoo that we did on the upper arm.
Apply a thin coat of the body glue.

Remove the stencil and wait until the glue becomes clear.  This does not take long.

My husband is picking up some of the glitter with the small glitter brush to cover the areas with glue.

Brushing away the excess glitter with the big glitter brush.
Oops…missed glue on Tinkerbell’s midsection!  We had done this just before bed so dug out the kit the next day and tried to touch up the area.
The leg was not easy with skin being more loose than on the upper arm and causing more room for error.
Here is the tattoo of a shooting star on my other daughter.

The glitter tattoos are to last on average, 3-7 days.  It can vary upon skin type and maintenance.  The glitter tattoo is waterproof, but it becomes weak when exposed to water for a prolonged period of time.  Friction from scrubbing or scratching also shortens life span.  It is funny that it lasted longer than 7 days on my oldest daughter who has darker skin and then a little less than a week on my younger daughter.  I did save one tattoo by putting it back on its backing and it was reusable.  It does not say to do this with the packaging.
Oil or lotion applied to the area of the tattoo can also weaken it.  The glitter tattoo can be removed with a gentle scrubbing motion with an alcohol swab.  Lotion can be placed on the tattoo for 5-10 minutes before you scrub and remove.
